A White Flag Surrender
A new song that I have been leading with my worship band is called “White Flag”. It is a song by Chris Tomlin that focuses on the theme of surrender. It is really a great song, and it is applicable to every Christian’s life.
So often, we do things in our own strength…not God’s. Living the Christian life, you are either fully surrendered to God with every aspect of your life, or you are not. I can assume that every Christian has been on both sides of the spectrum.
We often temporarily surrender to God, but then the…
- temptation that leads to sin controls us
- busyness of life steals our time with God
- time we once devoted to spend with God now is replaced with something else
The list can go on. The point is that in order for complete surrender to happen, we must do the following:
Diagnose the Problem
In order to experience complete surrender, one must first diagnose the problem. The things that are causing God to be pushed aside need to be removed. This is probably the easiest step. Anyone can diagnose a problem. Few can actually commit. Which brings the next point…
Commit to Surrender
This is the hardest part. It is something that most know of, but very few actually do. Complete surrender to God involves a serious commitment. As humans, we fall short so many times. We can not come close to 100% perfection, but we can be characterized by following God’s commands.
It all boils down to commitment. I wish I could commit to surrender every time, but I don’t.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
-James 4:8 NKJV
God is always willing to bring us back to the place where we parted away from Him though. That’s the awesomeness of His grace!
What do you need to surrender?
