Making A Difference With Your Words and Actions

The other day, I posted a tweet that said, “Words without actions are meaningless”. True influencers are able to back up their words with actions.

If you think about it, would you rather listen to someone who just tells you what to do but is unable to execute it personally? Or would you rather listen and follow someone who actually lives out what they say?

I would choose the second option.

I have received numerous emails from teens across the country in the past week that have really inspired me to write this post. Many have started connecting with me through twitter, but a few have actually kept me updated on things through email. It is awesome to connect with people my age around the nation that I have never met before.

Quantity vs Quality

Recently, I have been thinking about how routines control our lives. Some routines are great to have in place, but others can be harmful. Something that I have been contemplating is how our spiritual lives involve routines. The discipline of reading the Bible every day is a great routine. However, if you read your Bible just to mark a check next to your schedule’s “to-do-list”, then that is not healthy.

Unfortunately, I believe that this is what occurs in our lives. Instead of reading your Bible for one hour mindlessly, try reading a passage of Scripture for a shorter amount of time and spending time in prayer longer. God desires for us to have a relationship with Him. It is easy to spend more time reading and studying about God rather than spending time with Him.

There is a difference between quality time and quantity time.

How Intentional Are You About Amplifying God’s Kingdom?

Something that I have been focusing on in my life recently is being intentional. It is easy to go through life doing what God wants you to do, but not being intentional about reaching others.

The purpose of this blog and really everything I strive to do is to “Amplify God’s Kingdom”. As Christ followers, we should desire to radically change the kingdom of God.

If you are going to amplify God’s kingdom, you have to be intentional.

  • Pray for others
  • Look for opportunities others are not willing see
  • Challenge yourself and others
  • Get involved in things that amplify God’s kingdom

In order to make an impact in the kingdom of God, you have to make it a priority. In other words, it has to be intentional.

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

-Colossians 3:2

We can always grow in this area of our Christian life. It is easy to forget to be intentional sometimes.

How To Have God’s Will For Your Life

A question that encompasses many Christian’s lives: “How do I follow God’s will for my life?”.  As Christians, we should desire to stay in God’s will for our lives. If we are truly following Christ, we should have the desire to please and serve Him.

If you are always questioning if what you are doing is God’s will, then how can you serve Him to our absolute best ability? The answer is rather simple: focus on God. This is easy to say, but it is not easy to live out on a daily basis. There are a few things that I have to remind myself of all the time to be able to be assured that I am living out God’s will for my life.

Pray

First off, prayer is important. If prayer is not an important part of your life, you can be certain that you are not in God’s will. If you are not on the same wavelength as God, you are not going to make the decisions that He wants you to make.

Connecting Requires Energy!

There is no doubt connecting with others requires energy…and lots of it! In order to have energy to connect, there are some strategies that must be learned.

5 Ways to Use Energy for Connecting

  • Initiative

As a leader and a “connector”, we must be willing to take the first step.

  • Clarity

It is important to have a plan when you are connecting with someone. It would not be beneficial to you or the other individual if you were not concerned or did not have clarity of mind when trying to connect. It is essential to:

  1. Know Yourself
  2. Know Your Audience
  3. Know Your Stuff
  • Patience

Connecting requires patience. Sometimes, we want to “cut-to-the-chase”. Instead, we should be willing to listen and understand the other person. This is hard to do…especially if there are other things going on!

  • Selflessness

This concept ties into patience. We need to be concerned about the other person (not our desires) if we are going to connect. Ever been with someone who only talks about himself? You certainly do not want to be this individual if you are trying to connect!

Connectors Must Connect On Common Ground With Others

This post was originally a guest post that I wrote a few months ago.

Connecting with others on a deep level is a skill. Although some can do it more easily than others, it must be developed. Energy is important in connecting.

In one of John C. Maxwell’s books, he explains some tips involved in having others  listen to you.

5 Things that Cause Someone to Listen

  • Relationships- Who you know
  • Insight-What you know
  • Success-What you have done
  • Ability-What you can do
  • Sacrifice-What you have lived

The five points mentioned above are really the five “pillars” of what causes someone to listen. Although they are all essential, I think that the most important of the five is sacrifice.

Great connectors must meet the other individual(s) on common ground. It is all about the other person. This obviously requires energy. John mentions that “It’s difficult to find common ground with others when the only person you are focused on is yourself.”

I can’t agree more!

Plugins for Your WordPress Blog

One of the things that I have learned about from switching to a self-hosted wordpress platform is plugins. These can be viewed as applications for your website. When I first set up my website, I was completely lost on what plugins are necessary to download. If you have too many, it can slow down your site considerably. On the other free blogging platforms such as blogger and wordpress.com, plugins are not available. However, plugins are necessary for any self-hosted blog or website.

I have received a few questions and emails from several people in the last few months about plugins, so I thought that I would list some of the ones I am using:

Askimet- This plugin is responsible for blocking unwanted spam from your website’s comments. A must have! It is totally free!

All in One SEO Pack- This plugin helps bring a whole new SEO experience to your blog. I highly recommend having it!

Disqus- The commenting system that I have on my site. I talk more about it here!
