Baggage. We all have things that try to weight us down. Guilt, depression, anxiety…just to name a few. The reality is that this world wants to add more to the problem.
I’m sure we all have past decisions that we wish we could reverse. Imagine if you could reverse time to correct your mistakes. It would be nice, but it is not reality. We live in a sinful world that only tries to destroy us. I believe that so many people are controlled by their baggage.
If you have ever traveled or have gone on a hiking adventure, the one thing you want to avoid is having a heavy load to carry. This causes you to become exhausted. The same thing applies to our lives. The more baggage you carry, the harder it will be to live the life God wants you to live.
The problem is us. We don’t have to carry around the baggage, but we do. I talk to so many people who just can’t let go of their past.
“How could a perfect God forgive me?”
“How could God love me? Do you know what I’ve done?”
I’m sure we have all heard these questions…maybe even have thought them. We must realize that God only wants to help us. He says to cast our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7). God wants to take our baggage from us, but we are often too stubborn to let Him take control.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
God wants to help us along the way, we just have to be willing to surrender to let Him take control.
Do you find yourself carrying more baggage than you can often handle? Let God take it! He is more than willing.
