#ThrowBackThursday: White Flag Surrender

I originally published this blog several months ago. Since it is Thursday, I’m going to do a #ThrowBackThursday blog post! I’m sure most of us have heard the song “White Flag” by Chris Tomlin. The song focuses on the theme of surrender.

So often, we do things in our own strength…not God’s. In living the Christian life, you are either fully surrendered to God with every aspect of your life, or you are not. I can assume that most of us  have been on both sides of the spectrum.

We often temporarily surrender to God, but then the…

  • temptation that leads to sin controls us
  • busyness of life steals our time with God
  • time we once devoted to spend with God now is replaced with something else

The list can go on. The point is that in order for complete surrender to happen, we must do the following:

Diagnose the Problem

Encouragement for Today: Closer

Today I wanted to share a short post of encouragement. Recently, a song titled “Closer” from Hillsong came out. It is a great song that talks about the life we have in Jesus.

Many people use things to fill the void in this life. People often choose drugs because they mask the pain of reality, engage in sexual immorality because it brings temporary fulfillment and companionship, or hide behind a career or job title because it provides an identity. These are all real needs. We want to have a good life full of joy and fulfillment. The problem is that it can not be found in what this world offers up to us.

Jesus is the only one who will provide true joy and a real meaning for your life.

I want to encourage you to watch this video of the song “Closer”. It has such a great message of encouragement and the life we can have in Jesus.

Making An Impact Requires A Break Away

I just wanted to publish a word of encouragement today. Our world is filled with instant gratification. As technology expands, our attention spans decrease and our expectations expand. This is not necessarily a bad thing!

impact

However, when it steals away our time with Christ, it can become a problem. It seems like the world, especially those in my generation, are living in the moment. Day by day…minute by minute…with no regard for preparation for the future. Sure, the future is often on people’s minds, but are they really living to prepare for what God has planned for them?

It is easy to get wrapped up in the every day life.

If you think about it, is it really necessary to know all of the current sport stats? Or all of the insider news on Hollywood celebrities? Does knowing every lyric to the world’s most popular pop/country/rock band really make an impact on others? Does obsessing over certain celebrities really help your relationship with Christ?

This Is Amazing Grace

I wanted to share a song today that I believe ties together the whole reason we are able to have a relationship with God. It’s because of the sacrifice Jesus paid for us on the cross. The song is called “This is Amazing Grace”. Watch the video and think about how much God has done for you.

Verse 1:
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger
The King of Glory, the King above all kings

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
Who leaves us breathless in awe and wonder
The King of Glory, the King above all kings

Chorus:
This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You would lay down Your life
That I would be set free
Jesus, I sing for
All that You’ve done for me

A Glowing Night of Worship

This past Wednesday night, the band and I were able to lead a neon/glow worship concert for our church. It was the last time I would lead worship for this group for the year because of moving away for college. It was a blast!

I got some video footage of the night, and I wanted to share it with all of you! Hope you enjoy!

The song below is a song that I wrote to lead in worship…
