An Interview With Katie Kippen On Worship
This is a brief interview with Katie Kippen. She plays acoustic guitar in our worship band!
Icebreakers
Describe yourself in 3 words.
I have been called a lot of different things,so it is hard to just say 3. But the most popular I have heard is bubbly.
What are your favorite hobbies?
On the free time that I do get to have, I love playing my guitar (Gibson Hummingbird)…it is like an all natural stress relief.
What are your favorite bands/artists?
My favorite changes almost every month, but the ones that I have been listening to lately are Needtobreathe, Phil Wickham, and Jimmy Needham.
Thoughts on Worship
Why do you lead worship?
I just love the guitar and it is not even about being on stage, but when you have a connection with the band members, and you are all on the same page bringing praise to God through music together…some true magic happens.
How do you prepare yourself each week for worship?
Well I go straight from work to church on Wednesdays, so my preparation is me jamming out to the songs that we are going to do that night on the way there.
How important of a role does prayer play in worship leading?
How could you worship a God that you don’t talk to? Worship and prayer go hand in hand. Some lyrics are like a prayer of my heart that just happened to be perfectly worded by another artist. You cant worship and not pray, and you cant pray and not worship.
What do you consider the hardest part of leading worship?
If I had a bad day at home or at work, it is hard to get into the music and let everything go and just worship sometimes. So the hardest thing for me would be letting everything go and just focus on Him for a little bit and let him have all of me and my attention.
Do you have any serious/non-serious questions for Katie?
