How Will You Use Your 86,000 Seconds?
Posted on: May 2, 2012, by : Brandon Gilliland

Time is valuable. Where you choose to spend your time reflects your priorities in life. There are many things that want to steal your time. Although social networking is great in many aspects, it can also be a major time consumer if it is placed in front of other more important things. The fact is that this world wants to distract us with other things that will keep us away from serving God.

Everyone has 86,000 seconds in a day. In reality, you have less than this amount of time because a good portion of it is spent sleeping. Our time is valuable. How you use the time that you are given each day reflects your priorities. It is hard for me sometimes to get away from the things that steal my time. I’m sure it is the same for you.

In 1st Corinthians, it says:

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

-1 Corinthians 10:31

In all things, we should do it to the glory of God. I’m sure almost every one of us can say that we fall short of this standard everyday. That’s why we constantly need Jesus. We can not do it on our own! Our time is valuable, and it is given to us by God. What we do with the time we have been given is important.

The challenge for today: Keep track of your time. Make a conscious effort to allow time for the most important things in life…which includes serving others. God gives us time to be able to use it for His glory…

How will you use your 86,000 seconds?

  • It’s a very interesting and eye opening concept when we look at how many seconds are actually in a day, we think about how one day is so long, as if we think it’s 1,000,000,000 seconds (and sometimes we might literally think there are when we forget), but in reality its just a few thousand seconds or a little over a thousand minutes, and half of it we spend sleeping! But like you said, it’s very valuable, and we need to live those 86,000 seconds for Jesus.

Thanks for this post, it is a challenging subject that we all need to work on! I’ll be trying to work on this and do your challenge for today!

    • Definitely. Maybe we can talk a little about this for our pre-worship devotional tonight?

  • Thanks for the challenge, Brandon!

  • Thinking of time in seconds really challenges us to live each moment with purpose. Awesome post!

  • Great reminder on the importance of using our time/seconds wisely.
